I’ve been putting this review off for a good two weeks because I have been waiting for inspiration from the experience to write it. I really wanted to be extra positive for my last post of the year, but Max Brenner, this will definitely be a mixed review.
Pure Chocolate Truffle Granita (pure chocolate truffle blended with ice, choice of dark, milk or white chocolate) and the Hazelnut Cream Chocolate Milkshake (vanilla bourbon icecream, dark chocolate truffle, whipped cream) – Both delicious BUT did not illicit the urge to suck down the whole thing all at once. In other words, good but not amazing.
In our dessert strategery to maximize stomach space for desserts, we ended up sharing a number of appetizers and did not end up ordering any entrees.
Potato Skin Bites: Missing some critical ooey gooey cheesy factor and crispy bacon.
Really Cheesy – Really Crunchy Mac n Cheese: This wasn’t really cheesy nor crunchy
Mushroom & Ricotta Pizza: Crust was nice and think but lacked chewiness and char. Overall kind of bland.
Smoky Dry Rubbed Chicken Wings: This was the tastiest of all the appetizers. It had a very nice bbq smokey taste.
Thai Style Chicken Satays (Not Pictured): These chicken skewers definitely needed a healthy dunk of Max’s peanut sauce. Without the sauce, they were quite bland.
Classic European Chocolate Fondue (choice of two chocolate sauce – pure milk, dark or white, served with toffee sauce, bananas, strawberries, chocolate chunk cookies, marshmallows and fluffy chocolate spong cake for dipping): We shared this very fun dessert. I wouldn’t say that the melted chocolate was extra impressive and creamy and the goodies to dip into the chocolate were very basic, but overall it’s a fun dessert to have and everyone should do it at least once.
Conclusion: I was not very impressed overall by the salty food and the sweets were only a little more on the above average flavor spectrum. I hate to give it a rating now without trying more dessert items and actual entree items. Max Brenner, I think you have potential. I’ll be back. =) Beeps… TBD
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, everyone! I wish everyone great eats in the new year!
