Holy upgrade! *sing to old Fanta soda jingle* Wanna Monta… do you wanna wanna Monta?!

It’s been a while since we’ve been back to Monta. It’s not because it’s not delicious. Believe me it is the very delicious! It’s because it’s been wayyyyy too hot in Vegas to eat HOT ramen. We finally came back for ramen last night and the entire experience was such an upgrade! Two air conditioning units added in and no wait on a Tuesday night. Hooray!

Now onto the food. Move over Bun Thit Nuong, Taiwanese cold noodles, and Naeng Myun. Summer cold noodles got a new MVP! Cold ramen noodles at Monta Ramen. What better dish to eat than cold al dente ramen noodles mixed in with a tangy light yuzu soy sauce and crunchy toss-in’s of fungus, cucumber, bean sprouts, egg, pop of mustard and of course, you can’t forget the FATTY FATTY cha-shu!

Conclusion: Monta Ramen cold noodles during summer time. Monta Ramen hot noodles during the winter time. Bravo, Monta. Bravo.

Big Wong!

Big Wong Restaurant
5040 Spring Mountain Rd

Keep it simple. That’s what Big Wong is about! Concentrate on doing a few dishes right and that’s what I like. =) Overall their menu is only about 20ish items but really they are only various combinations of a base of 10 dishes?

– Hoi Nam Chicken – Basic braised chicken dish that is simple to make but not everyone can make tasty. They got it right here. The rice had a nice essence of chicken, the chicken was slightly salted and when paired with the sweet and tangy sauce of the side, it was quite scrumptious.
– Beef Stew – Oh comfort food. This is it! It had a slightly spicy kick with the sauce. Even in warm weather, this was comforting.
– Veggies and Oyster Sauce – This dish was a little sub par. Veggies were chopped to 2″ chunks which left the fun out of eating our greens!
– Bonus: Fried Shrimp Wonton – They served us these fresh out of the fryer! Great shrimp flavor and happy surprise.

Conclusion: Big Wong is a great place for simple dishes with good taste.

Lotus of Siam

What took me so long to come here and eat?! Lotus of Siam has long held the reputation of being one of the top Thai restaurants in the country and I finally got to experience the bombness of this place! Perhaps, it’s because of the location. It is in a very seedy party of town that LOOKS seedy during the day and even seedier at night. Great food found in a dumpy strip mall? Perfect.

We went during lunch time and did not go with the lunch buffet. As advised by on of our Lotus of Siam experience friends, we chose to order from the menu instead and it was the way to go! I think everything we chose was deep fried in some form or another, which lead to a cholesterol fest of food. I’m getting older, so that stuff don’t phase me (yet).

Our introduction was Garlic Prawns. Crispy + salty = good.

Next came the Chilean Seabass and Drunken Noodles and Crispy Duck Panang. Flavors were on the saltier side, but again, I am a sucker for CRISPY!!

My most favorite dish was Nam Koi Tod (minced sour sausage mixed with green onion, fresh chili, ginger, peanuts, crispy rice and lime juice). I’ve never had this dish before anywhere, so it was a fun new dish. Crispy crunchy rice with the fragrant flavors of all the fixings left a party in my mouth!

Conclusion: Lotus of Siam lives up to the hype. Will definitely go back and try other menu items.
