Finally, real sushi has made an appearance in Las Vegas. It joins other Japanese restaurants (Monta, Raku, Trattoria Nakamura) seemingly making a name for themselves and revitalizing a dump of a plaza it used to be.

Kabuto offers fresh, simple but thoughtfully created dishes. I won’t list everything that I ate because somehow once the first piece of nigiri sushi hit my tongue, I forgot to take pictures and was just floating in my own sushi heaven. Gives me reason to return again.

Conclusion: Thank you Sushi Gods. Edomae sushi here in Las Vegas at last. =)

Hooray! Bachi Burger, the famous fusion burger joint in town has expanded and landed in the west side of town. Hearty burgers and delicious sides were calling my name!

Walking in, looks like they’ve done a swell job of decorating. It looks modern, clean, hip and still features photography from artists posted on their walls. Service was snappy, responsive and done with a genuine smile.

On to the food!
1. Calamari – Bachi Burger has taken this appetizer to a new level. The bits of squid are fried delicately and they stay crunchy. Tossed in are bits of mint, grilled cherry tomatoes and slices of grilled lemon, turning the dish into something light and flavor blasted. The sauces paired were the traditional tartare sauce and a green chili sauce. What I found was the best flavor combo? Double dipping the tarter and the chili sauce!
2. Ronin Burger – My Angus Beef was juicy and tender. The caramelized onions and miso goma dressing enhanced the beef flavor. The Japanese Cole Slaw added the perfect refreshing crunch and the runny yolk from the fried egg always add a extra bonus factor – GOOEY!. If the sauces inside weren’t enough, I also chose to dunk the burger in the citrus aioli for an extra flavor blast.
3. Miyagi Burger – Is this a new one? I’m not sure that I’ve seen it at the other location, but this tasty as well. Where the Ronin provided a “refreshing” burger (if burgers could be refreshing), the Miyagi provided a “extra savory” experience. It too had a juicy meat patty and a fried egg, but what makes this one stand out is the sea aroma from the furikake. Mmmm mmmm seaweed bonus.
4. Truffle Parmesan fries – Of course we need some spuds to go with our burgers! This is a seriously addicting side dish. Shoestring fries drizzled with their special concoction of truffle oil and sprinkled with parmesan cheese.

Conclusion: These past few years have grown in the fusion food world, and Bachi brings it to the next level with the excellent quality of food and service. They have this new location dialed in!

I always end up eating Asian more times than not, but this time we tried completely different. Argentinian food! Apparently, it can be meat galore! We ordered two orders of the grilled meat platter (Parrillada) and various empanadas (spinach, chorizo and chicken).

I’m not a big meat eater, but I must say that all the meats were juicy and tender. The mini charcoal grill made the experience even more novel. All the empanadas were very good, but my favorite was the chicken. (Side note: I enjoyed it so much that I ordered two more chicken empanadas to go for my lunch the next day. With a quick 1 min 45 sec zap in the microwave, I had a hearty lunch. =)

Conclusion: Brazilian BBQ has some competition.

I am happy that there is another ramen option other than the more busy Monta Ramen in the Chinatown area. I’ve been a couple times and the broth isn’t as intense as Monta Ramen. The noodles seem thicker, which is good for me because I like thick and chewy noodles. The chashu is just as tasty and fatty-licious.

Would you say I like Sora Ramen more? I would just say it’s different. Like comparing apples and oranges and like comparing ramen from different areas in Japan.

Conclusion: Delicious Ramen. Give it a try.

Finally, we have a restaurant that specializes in cold soba and udon. Hooray for Vegas. Being the noodle whore that I am, I had high expectations from tasting all the delicious noodle restaurants in Torrance, CA.

Finally, we have a restaurant that specializes in cold soba and udon. Hooray for Vegas. Being the noodle whore that I am, I had high expectations from tasting all the delicious noodle restaurants in Torrance, CA.

I-Naba’s cold soba and cold udon noodles brought just the right amount of chewiness. The mild dipping sauce was the perfect compliment to warm Las Vegas weather.

“We’re not playing around here.” That is what Mr. David Wong said to us as we were ordering our food (warning us to be careful on ordering spicy level). How awesome is that?! He warned us but we still ordered food at a varying levels from 3-7 spicy level. All of us were completely satisfied after we scarfed everything down.

We’re a bunch of pigs so we ordered the following dishes for family style sharing:
1. Crying Tiger – This is a refreshing salad of seared beef with greens and tangy spicy dressing
2. Malaysian Roti – Deep fried dough with lovely potato curry
3. Basil Fried Rice – Yea! Bring on the heat and flavor!
4. Spicy Basil with chicken – Yummy stir fry with a bunch of different greens
5. Black Pepper Chicken – Similar to the spicy basil stir fry but more black bean sauce.
6. Pineapple Fried Rice – This had a very pleasant aroma of curry and pineapple. Delish!
7. Red Snapper – Delicious seafood in a non-fancy restaurant? It sure it. It was deep fried with tangy sweet and sour sauce.
8. Duck Curry – This was my fav of the night! This duck was cooked with LOVE! The skin was perfectly crunchy and when paired with the curry sauce, it was heaven.
9. Tempura Icecream – Standard deep fried yumminess
10. Tempura Cheesecake – Standard deep fried yumminess

Conclusion: It’s impressive that a restaurant can offer so many different Asian dishes and do them all so well! Sorry Michelle’s waistline, this restaurant is around the corner, so we’re coming more often!

I’ve been chewing on this post for a bit. We went here just around Christmas time of last year, and I wasn’t sure what my opinion was on it. Usually, I’m all over fresh noodles and potstickers because it is my favorite breakfast food of all time. Beijing Noodle Cafe gave me a mixed bag of feelings, and I’ve concluded that it comes down these these reasons:

1. I am Cantonese…. I’m used to more robustly flavored dishes and northern Chinese cuisine usually does not deliver on that. Beijing Noode Cafe was not robust in the dishes that we ordered (jia jiang mian, lan zhou noodles)
2. I love Fresh noodles! Hand cut or hand pulled.

Conclusion: Simply for the love of fresh noodles, I will go back and try again. =)

Happy Chinese New Year! Here’s to a year of delicious food.

Here’s our newest dim sum find in Vegas and they were suprisingly delicious! Our go to used to be Ping Pang Pong in the Gold Coast because it was the best among mediocre Vegas dim sum. Now East Ocean Dim Sum, a gem over in Henderson, is the much better option. Textures were chewy when it was supposed to be chewy, crunchy when supposed to be crunchy and mmmmmmm flaky and buttery when supposed to be flaky…… mmmmmmm

It offers the surprisingly tasty dim sum, helpful staff in a large and seemingly clean restaurant, AND the bonus is that it is smoke free. =)

Conclusion: It is a 30 minute drive across town for me, but I will travel to eat.
