Earl of Sandwich [Toasty]

Earl of Sandwich has been on my radar for probably about 10 years since they opened one up on the Las Vegas strip around that time. My best friend Patty shares my same food taste and raved about it when she tried it. Fast forward to 2016, I finally tried them because they conveniently opened a branch in Downtown Summerlin. Woohoo!

Walking in, it was definitely a more casual eatery than I had pictured. Turns out, it’s super casual and you order at the counter, which is fine by me!

My friend Tav got The Holiday Turkey (Turkey, cornbread stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce & mayonnaise, which I totally liked more than my own The Earl’s Club (roasted turkey, smoked bacon, aged swiss cheese, lettuce, roma tomatoes, & sandwich sauce). Can’t beat cranberry sauce in The Holiday Turkey, though I really enjoyed the sandwich sauce in The Earl’s Club. Both sandwiches came out with perfectly toasty bread. I was amazed that the bread could be so light and fluffy, but so toasty as the same time.

Earl of Sandwich, I will be back!

My dream has come true. Writing for free food has happened. Public School in downtown Summerlin invited little ol’ me to sample their new brunch items. I’ve already eaten at Public School a few times already and have already developed quite a taste for their fresh food with a spin and fun classroom inspired decor (love all the details!). Brunch happens to be one of my favorite meals, so how could I have turned the invitation down?

Feast, we shall! Shari was our awesome server. Please, do take her advice if you ever dine here because she had the awesome recommendation of trying the Eggs Benedict Pizza.

Bloody Mary Blood Mary Close Up beermosa

Bloody Mary – Something that will grow some hair on your chest and shock you out of your hangover in a good way. Comes with their delicious signature naked chicken wing
Beermosa – Even more refreshing than a regular mimosa. Bubbly and hoppy for adult tastes

Eggs Benedict Pizza Chicken Sausage & Cheddar Grits White Bean Toast

Entrees – What made my eyes light up on each of these was the oozy over easy eggs. The easiest way into my heart is to give me a oozing yolky fried egg.

Chicken Sausage and Cheddar Grits – Savory chicken sausage with grits formed into a semi firm form in a whole PARTY of bacon. Bacon everywhere = Good
Eggs Benedict Pizza – When I think Eggs Benedict, I think of the typical hollandaise sauce with Canadian bacon. I only have Canadian bacon when I’ve been feeling guilty about eating too much regular porky, fatty bacon. This pizza proved to me that I can actually really enjoy eggs benedict. I like THIS kind of eggs benedict. This had a thin pizza crust that held it’s integrity through the entire meal (see the side profile pictures), OOEY GOOEY egg of course, crispy brussel sprout leaves, grana padano shavings, which is hard cheese comparable to parmesan reggiano. I’ll come back for this breakfast pizza any day.

White Bean Toast – To compliment our two main dishes, I decided to add some pig out with this white bean toast. Why not? It added two thick slabs of bacon on each with some frisee greens, creamy hummus and over easy egg.

Conclusion: Solid brunch. Go try it.

This place is a junk food connoisseur’s heaven. When Guy talks about going to flavor town, he was NOT kidding! I love you Guy because you and me are on the same wavelength about junk food. I know what everyone’s thinking. It’s just glorified bar food, but hey, while most people think you can’t really screw up bar food, you can definitely up the ante on it and make it even more gluttonous.

Triple T Fries Double Barrel BBQ Wings Smoked Beef Short Ribs

Triple T Fries – Perfect crispy texture with my favorite cut of fry, shoestrings!
truffle, truffle + more truffle!
julienne cut fries tossed with black truffle, truffle infused
gouda cheese + a creamy white truffle dip

Double Barrel BBQ Wings – Fall off the bone meat with tangy dipping sauce.
coated in a blend of Guy’s signature bourbon brown sugar BBQ sauce
and chipotles, served with crispy
fried onion straws, tangy ranch + raw veggie medley

Smoked Beef Short Ribs – meat, meat, and more tender meat.
bone-in beef short ribs rubbed with signature BBQ spice rub,
house-made orange-poblano BBQ glaze,
with polenta, peppers, onions + tomatillos

Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger 2 Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger - Close Up Mexican Churros

Bacon Mac-N-Cheese Burger – This was my favorite of the night. With so many ingredients in one burger, I thought it would be difficult to eat and the ratios and textures right and would be all wrong for me (too much meat, bun too soggy from sauces, etc.) However, this is BOMB. Flavor town to the max and the textures were all there in a very chomp-able burger that held it together. I hate it when the burger is constructed poorly, and bits and pieces start sliding out.
Guy’s award-winning burger – winner of the New York City Wine +
Food Festival Burger Bash!
crispy applewood bacon, six-cheese mac ‘n’ cheese,
LTOP (lettuce, tomato, onion + pickle),
SMC (supermelty- cheese) and donkey sauce are stacked on a
garlic-buttered brioche bun

Mexican Churros – This was standard. Sweet, warm, tasty. I did find the dips too sweet for my liking, but my two eating partners had no complaints.
freshly fried churros with spicy chocolate + dulce de leche dips

Conclusion: Guy Fieri, you did not disappoint me. Your food was everything I imagined it would be. It may not be “gourmet,” but it’s dang tasty.

I’m always fighting with the angel or demon on my shoulder. Should I be good or be bad. Usually “be bad” wins and I go bad BIG TIME, and most of the time, it’s just deciding on one thing that’s the battle. This time I let the person at the cashier decide for me because EVERYTHING looked too good for me to decide on one item. It as a gamble, but hey, we live in Vegas right? Har har har.

The menu is organized into healthy vs. happy. She made me narrow down to the savory and happy side. Boy was I satisfied with her selection. Hubby chose the #Merica’ (chicken fried steak over biscuits) – good husband, and I was surprised with the S’motherload (Shaved NY Strip, egg, sausage, potatoes, peppers, onions, cheddar & pico in a tortilla w/cajun cheddar cheese sauce). I ate almost the whole thing along with a biscuit I took from hubby’s plate. Scrumdiddlyumptios. That’s all I have to say.

Return for Awful Awful Burger

Wolf Den

Reno, NV 89503

I returned to Reno recently to visit my good friend and college roommate Carla, and of course, we had to return to some our old food haunts. We used to indulge in the famous Awful Awful Burger with a full basket of fries, which I claim to have devoured all by myself, every single fry. This time we went to the newly renovated bar called the Wolf Den situated near the University of Nevada, Reno’s dorms. It proved to have the same Awful Awful burger that I remember from The Nugget, minus the greasy diner vibe and now trade it for the college hangout vibe. An advantage now is that school is currently out, so we got to dine in peace and did not have to battle parking. (Wow, I’m starting to sound old! Ha ha)

Bliss with my hamburger. Behold! … but I did not finish all my fries.

eat. menu

In a town of fancy foods and celebrity chefs, eat. brings it back to simple food. The biscuits brought me back to my imaginary biscuit baking grandma’s kitchen with perfectly sweet berries. This was a mop it up and lick up the sauce moment, but I held back to not embarrass my husband. Though my truffled egg sandwich had the often fancy ingredient at high priced restaurants, this sandwich just brought it back to the roots, simple ingredients made well – fluffy eggs with just the right amount of truffle essence with thick cut bacon in between oh-so-amazing cloud-like pieces of ciabatta bread. Despite often being a fan of potatoes cut to smithereens and then deep fried to an unrecognizable state, I even ate all the big hunks of real pan fried potatoes.
