Just when you thought you’ve had it all and what could possibly be THAT different with yet another ice cream. Welp, Gelato Messina sure showed me!

The run down: This company awesomely Australian and they couldn’t be more nice and down to earth. Declan one of the owners personally presented to us fellow food bloggers and writers (shout out to Amber and her guy Bronson at!). His marketing team was also awesome. Ok, ok, back to the food. Because food has gotten so commercialized, it’s really nice to see the company brings back the passion and the love for quality food, and you could really tell that love is put into everything. Ingredients are all made in house (except for two type of biscuits). They’ve got an army of staff back there. Flavors and textures are incredible! Tiramisu has all the textures of creamy, cakey lady fingers, and hint of alcoholiness (yes, I made up “alcoholiness”). How are the fruit sorbets so creamy? The salty sweet combination of salted coconut and mango blew my mind. Pistachio gelato? I can taste real pistachios! It is true that it is “So Wrong Its Right” with cream cheese, caramel gelato smashed with white chocolate potato chips and smothered in duck fat caramel. So many delicious flavors, but if I had to choose one, the winner of the day is salted caramel with white chocolate. I guess my tastes are changing – salty sweet is gaining favor in my world.

Gelato Messina is not only offering an amazingly unique spread of gelato flavors, but also on top of that, they offer beautifully constructed gelato cakes and coffee.

Conclusion: This is the place to be if you want unique, complex flavors made with the most fresh and natural ingredients with fantastic texture. I know it’s the place for me because it’s almost in my backyard!

Coco Donuts

Outside Box

Being in Vegas, I haven’t had the pleasure of enjoying the famous creation of Dominique Ansel or copy cats until now. Coco Donuts offer the decadent version in a few different varieties, and I ventured to try their cinnamon sugar with bavarian cream. First bite in, I enjoyed the sugary crispy crust with fluffy powdered sugar. Full bite in, I sunk my teeth through the full thickness of all the flaky layers. I was a tad disappointed by it being more doughy than light and airy, but the overall package is definitely a crowd pleasure. It wasn’t too sweet, and I thought the amount of cream piped in was just right, not too overwhelming and letting the buttery layers of the cronut speak for themselves.

Conclusion: Bravo Coco Donuts. Thanks for the cheery service and mom pop donuts. I got a whole dozen to take care of!

Mora's Iced Creamery

Mora Iced Creamery

Mora Iced Creamery was hyped up a lot because supposedly, it is the BEST icecream and it is worth the trek to Bainbridge Island from a ferry originating from downtown Seattle. A few spoonful samples of the ice cream solidified (har har *pun intended) my stance on it. It IS the BEST ice cream I’ve ever had. Perhaps the small batches churned with love and the lower level of butter fat is what makes it good. The flavors are clean and pure and the texture was incredibly creamy and airy at the same time.

Voila – I “settled” on two scoops, one each of pistachio and cheesecake and brownie.

Mom & Pop Donuts

Ronald’s Donuts has been on my list of to try for about 3 years, but somehow I have never made it there. The stars were aligned recently, and we were in the neighborhood to drop by. So many to choose from, I was like a kid in a candy store. I managed to put my tongue back in my mouth and picked out a half dozen assortment of donuts.

The assortment was delicious. These were not skinny like your Krispy Kreme variety. These were fluffy pieces of dreaminess. [see picture]

The bonus is that it’s locally owned, not a major giant, so you get kind, warm and inviting service. Goodbye Krispy Kreme. Helloooo Ronald’s Donuts!

p.s. Word on the street is that all donuts are vegan except for the cake donuts.

Vosges Chocolate

Maybe I’m not as much of a chocolate snob as I thought? I didn’t find Vosges chocolate particularly amazing but then I did not have the actual artisan chocolates. All I had was their espresso and icecream concoction and I didn’t find the icecream extra creamy. Nor did I find the espresso especially manificent. However, I will note that the service was very courteous and non-pushy, which I did not expect in a fancy schmancy chocolate shop.
