Zaytoon Mediterranean Market and Kabob

I admit that I have limited exposure to Persian food, but I am dang sure that I absolutely love it. When I visit one of my best friends in southern California, we always get take out from Raffi’s Place. We eat it the first night for dinner. Then, I have it for breakfast the next day. Then, I have it as a snack. Then, I have it for dinner, again. Right before, I leave for the airport, I have the last bit of everything. The amazing thing about me eating Persian food is that I love to mush everything together. Anyone who knows me well knows that I do NOT like my food touching, BUT Persian food somehow is the huge exception. I LOVE MIXING IT ALL TOGETHER – meats, sauces, rice, dips.

I was getting a huge hankering for Persian food recently in Vegas, but never knew where to go until I read up on Zaytoon Mediterranean Market and Kabob. Everyone was recommending Koobideh, which is the main dish I love. I never really like the chicken or steak kabobs. It’s all about the ground beef skewers for me – Koobideh for the win! My loving hubby put aside his usual cravings for Asian food and accompanied me for dinner recently. What amazed me about the patrons was that not only were there many people of Middle Eastern decent, but also many people of other ethnicities enjoying the food. Food came out fast and service was friendly.

Dishes we enjoyed with the wonderful chewy and toasty bread on the side:
Shirazi Salad (Diced cucumbers, tomato, and onion in a citrus mint dressing)
Masto Khiar (Cucumber and yogurt dip)
Kashke Bademjaan (Fried Iranian Eggplant Dip)
Koobideh Kabob (2 skewers of our marinated ground beef, grilled on a skewer. Served with grilled tomato and rice)
Shish Kabob (2 skewers tender filet mignon. Served with grilled tomato and rice) – Not recommended by CFG
Iranian Pistachio Ice Cream flavored with saffron and rose water
(Did not order tadik/crispy rice, though I did see it on the menu.)
